Vineyard
Our vineyard is located on the hilly hillsides of the municipalities of Meurville, Couvignon and bligny At the heart of the Bar Coast, in Champagne.
The three emblematic varieties of Champagne (Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay) are present in our 11-hectare vineyard but it is Pinot Noir which is 80% in the majority.
Already labeled VDC (sustainable viticulture in Champagne) and hve (High environmental value), it is naturally that we wanted to go further. Since 2020, our operation is therefore in Biological conversion and was AB Certified in 2024.
Beyond the labels and certifications our vineyard is intended to be turned towards a viticulture of the future where the world of living and planting are in harmony. A symbiosis between man and biodiversity so that everyone finds their place and that the magic operates. We cultivate our domain with a holistic vision, ie we take into account the environment that surrounds us and are listening to the elements in order to try to understand what nature delivers as a message.
More than half of our plot is located on a bottom of a valley bordered by meadow and forest, where the Cistercian monks, in the past, had historically taken up residence, we are committed to making this place a haven of peace, borrowing from opening and Reconnect. A place that aims to be both cultural with the discovery of the vines and the profession of winegrower and rejuvenating with its soothing and rejuvenating atmosphere.
Anxious to want to discover our profession
We are very attached to our family history and Champenoise as well as values that have been transmitted to us. Sharing, transmission, cooperation, conviviality, passion and smile are our watchwords.
The concepts of Past, present and future are important to us. the vine being a perennial plant, its roots allow us to stay anchored in the ground in order to keep our feet on the ground and not forget who we are. In November, we leave for a wine year, without knowing what nature has in store for us. Whether the year is good or bad, it reminds us at every moment that we must live the present moment with a benevolent eye.
In life nothing is ever acquired! We must constantly demonstrate adaptability for the future. At the Domaine les Echalas, we are always looking improvement and of new perspectives. “Because often to find you have to search first.” Beyond a trade, being a winegrower is a passion
A family story
For more than eight generations our family has been growing vines. But it was in the 1960s that the Perron family would really decide to make it their main activity.
Armand Perron accompanied by two of his oldest children, Jean-Claude and Jean-Michel. They will then make the crazy bet to embark on this new adventure, that of the cultivation of the vine.
Remember that at the time "it was better to have two cows or a square of field than a piece of vine". And even if it was Armand, Jean Claude and Jean-Michel who worked tirelessly to create and shape what was to become our vineyard, it is the whole family who will live to the rhythm of the difficult seasons and years. They will quickly learn that if nature is able to give them a lot, it is also able to take everything back from them.
Convinced and passionate Through this culture, they will work hard to achieve their goal. Successively, they will learn to graft the vines, work the fir wood to make vine stakes, will carry out hundreds of notarized exchanges so that everyone can find their account. They will also be with five other people, Co-founders, of the Gaston Cheq wine cooperative To create more equity between winegrowers and traders. This also in order to be able to have a high-performance production tool.
Armand will even go to Paris to present his figures to a committee, so that wine loans are granted. These new loans will allow the smallest winegrowers to acquire new land and make new plantations. This will earn him the appointment of administrator, for life, in a renowned bank.
loving more than all their trade and the sharing, they have us transmitted their values.
Concerned and admiring of the work of our elders, we make it a point of honor to respect and preserve our vineyard while adapting our practices and our philosophy for future ventilation.
